Dugald Stewart Walker's Dream Boats

I've been spending what little spare time I have, researching and enjoying "golden age" book illustration. I've just made a lucky purchase of a 1st edition, c1918, Dugald Stewart Walker's Dream Boats and Other Stories, with beautiful illustrations, 4 color plates, and 16 full page black and white. It should arrive sometime within the week.

In the meantime, I have Archive dot Org to remind me. The images above come directly from that site, un-cropped and un-edited. Click the link and you will be rewarded.

  2. These are absolutely stunning and very inspiring---I'm doing some work with text and image, and this is such a beautiful example of isolating text and pairing it with an image.

Thanks for sharing these. Hope all is going well!

    1. Hi Hannah,

Walker often did interesting things with his text and images. As soon as I can, I'll send you links with more of his books available online.

I had noticed, too, how he isolates each word, the style and the typography and the meaning, holding them all together, and how beautifully they integrate with each image.
